Our approach

Care Inspired by How Dogs Actually Thrive

We borrow the best ideas from Montessori education — not as a formal school, but as a guiding philosophy for how dogs feel safe, balanced, and genuinely happy in our care.

What Montessori Means for Dogs

Montessori education is built on a simple truth: when you prepare the right environment and follow the individual's lead, learning and wellbeing happen naturally. We apply that same thinking to pet care. Every space, every routine, and every interaction at Pet Day is designed around what dogs actually need — not what's easiest for us.

Prepared Environment

Every space is thoughtfully arranged for safety, comfort, and natural exploration. Dogs can move freely, find quiet corners, and engage with enrichment at their own pace.

Meaningful Choice

Dogs are given appropriate opportunities for play, exploration, enrichment, rest, and decompression while Pet Day staff guide placement based on each dog's safety, temperament, and individual needs.

Observation-Led Support

We watch closely and respond to each dog's individual signals. Subtle body language tells us more than barking does. Our team is trained to read and respect what dogs are saying.

Enrichment & Rest

Balanced days include purposeful activity and protected, restorative rest. Protected rest and decompression periods are built into the day based on each dog's needs, activity level, age, and comfort.

Individual Rhythm

Every dog has their own pace. We don't rush transitions, force socialization, or push dogs past their comfort zone. Progress happens when dogs feel safe, not pressured.

Relationship First

Trust is built through consistency, gentleness, and patience. We take time to learn each dog before asking anything of them. That relationship is the foundation of everything.

A Day at Pet Day

Structure creates safety. Here's what a typical boarding or daycare day looks like.

7:00 – 8:30 am

Morning arrivals

Calm, unhurried check-ins. Dogs settle in at their own pace before the day begins.

8:30 – 10:30 am

Morning play & enrichment

Supervised group play, sniff games, and interactive enrichment in compatible groups.

10:30 am – 12:30 pm

Rest block

Protected rest period. All dogs have a quiet, restorative break built into their day based on their individual needs and activity level.

12:30 – 2:30 pm

Afternoon play

Second round of play, outdoor time, and individual attention for dogs who need it.

2:30 – 4:00 pm

Wind-down & rest

Lower-energy activities, calm enrichment, and another rest period before the evening.

4:00 – 6:00 pm

Evening & departures

Pickups, final potty breaks, and settling in for boarding dogs spending the night.

Safety Is Never an Afterthought

Every protocol exists because we thought carefully about what could go wrong — and planned for it.

Controlled entry

Controlled entry and exit protocols so no dog can slip out during arrivals or departures.

Temperament grouping

Dogs are placed by play style, size, energy level, and comfort — never just thrown together. Compatibility matters.

No forced play

Every dog has the right to opt out of group interaction at any time. Quiet spaces are always available.

Health & vaccination review

Pet Day collects and reviews each dog's health and vaccination information as part of our intake and safety process. Eligibility is determined based on the individual dog, applicable requirements, Pet Day safety policies, and management review.

Protected rest periods

Protected rest and decompression periods are built into the day based on each dog's needs, activity level, age, and comfort.

Emergency veterinary protocols

Pet Day maintains emergency veterinary procedures and owner authorization protocols so staff know how to respond if urgent care is needed.
